Cosmetic Surgery Facelift
Considering a cosmetic surgery facelift? Many men and women lose skin elasticity, develop droopy skin, lose fat and muscle tone as they age. A cosmetic surgery facelift removes the excess facial skin to make the face appear younger. A traditional facelift or Rhytidectomy is performed through an incision starting at the hairline above and in front of the ear. The incision will extend downward in front of the ear then ends in the hairline behind the ear. The skin and fatty tissue are lifted off the underlying muscle and connective tissue as far forward as it is necessary to correct the loose skin. The skin is pulled back and the excess is removed.
There are some risks with cosmetic surgery facelifts and they include; bleeding, bruising, infection, loss of sensation, scar, loss of hair (especially around the scar), loss of skin and unevenness between the two sides of your face.
The results are very satisfying and should last about 10 years. There is minimal pain and discomfort and the dressings are removed in 3-5 days. At that time, you should be able to resume your normal daily life.
Other procedures maybe included with your facelift, such as a browlift which smoothes the creases in your forehead and/or facial implants to improve facial contours.
A browlift is preformed with an incision in the hair right above the forehead usually from ear to ear. The same procedures to remove and tighten the skin are exactly like the facelift, but the incision is concealed within the hair unless it is placed at the hairline to shorten the forehead.
There are three facial implants; the chin implant, the jaw implant and the cheek implant.
The Chin Implant: The surgeon selects the size and shape of the implant to enhance or correct your appearance and inserts it into a pocket over the front of the jawbone. The pocket is made with either a small (intra-oral) incision along the lower lip or an incision just under the chin area.
The chin is taped to minimize swelling and the sutures are removed within five to seven days unless you had an intra-oral incision that uses dissolvable sutures. Your surgeon will give you instructions on how to care, brush your teeth, eat and give you a list of restrictions, if any.
The Cheek Implant: If you are getting cheek implants when you are getting your facelift the implants can be inserted through the facelift incisions. Otherwise, an incision will be made either inside your upper lip or your lower eyelid. A pocket is then formed and an implant is inserted. A dressing is then applied and the discomfort varies depending on other procedures performed at the same time.
Your cosmetic surgeon will give you instructions on dietary restrictions as well as any limitations to your daily activities. Be aware that you may have limited ability to move your mouth or lips for a few days. The stitches will dissolve within 10 days.
The Jaw Implant: With jaw implants the incisions are made on either side of the lower lip to create a pocket into which the implant can be inserted Swelling may be considerable after surgery, usually peaking within a day or two and subsiding after several days. During this healing phase your activities, as well as your diet will be restricted.
Your ability to smile, talk or move your mouth in general may be limited for several days to weeks and your surgeon will instruct you in regards to oral and dental hygiene during your recovery. Since the incisions were made inside your mouth they will dissolve after 10 to 12 days.
Remember after any facial surgery it will take time for you to see the final results. Give yourself plenty of time to get used to your new look. Make sure your find a qualified, certified cosmetic surgeon to perform your cosmetic surgery facelift as with any cosmetic procedure. This will insure that you are getting the best care to get the end result that you long for.
Facelift!
A lady goes to the doctor to see about getting a facelift.
“Well,” says the doctor, “I can do the facelift, and then you’ll have to come back in six months for a follow-up.”
“Oh, no.” the woman replies. “I want it all done in one shot. I don’t want to have to come back.”
The doctor thinks for a second, then offers, “There is a new procedure where we put a screw in the top of your head. Then anytime you see wrinkles appearing, you just give it a little turn, which pulls the skin up and they disappear.”
“That’s what I want!” exclaims the lady. “Let’s do that.”
Six months later the lady charges into the doctor’s office.
“Well, how’s the procedure holding up?” the doctor asks.
“Terrible!” the lady bellows. “It’s the worst mistake I’ve ever made.”
“What’s wrong?” asks the doctor.
“Just look at these bags under my eyes!” she hollers.
“Lady,” the doctor reports, “those aren’t bags, those are your boobs, and if you don’t leave that screw alone, you’re going to have a beard!”
