Cosmetic Surgery Photos

When you have a cosmetic surgery consultation with the surgeon be prepared to ask a lot of questions.  The reason for the consultation is for you to be evaluated and for you to have a complete understanding of the surgery and any risks involved.  Along with the consultation they will take your before cosmetic surgery photos, so you have a better perspective of your final results.

You should ask these questions:

  1. How will my surgery be performed and are there less evasive procedures available?
  2. Are there any reasons why I should not get the surgery?
  3. Do I get a copy of the cosmetic surgery pictures?
  4. How often has the surgeon perform the procedure?
  5. How long does the surgery take and will I spend the night in the hospital or a clinic?
  6. If I spend the night, what are the additional fees for the hospital?
  7. When can I go home?
  8. How long is the recovery and when is my follow-up exam? At that time will the stitches be removed and my post cosmetic surgery photo be taken?
  9. How long does it take to heal and when can I go back to work?
  10. Where are the incisions going to be and what are my activity restrictions?
  11. What are the risks involved with my cosmetic surgery?
  12. What is the total cost including hospital fees and other extras and do they have any cosmetic surgery financing or payment plans?
  13. What if I decide not to do the cosmetic surgery, do I get my down payment back?
  14. Ask to see other patients before and after cosmetic surgery pictures, however be informed that these can be touched up.
  15. Does he have other patient referrals?
  16. Is the surgeon board certified by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASAP)?

The surgeon or his staff will ask you your medical history; allergies to any medications, other cosmetic-surgery-photos2surgeries, medications or over the counter medications, vitamins or supplements.  It is advisable to stop certain supplements and vitamins before surgery, so please be honest.  You should feel comfortable with your surgeon because you trust him to give you the results you are looking for.

The surgeon may suggest other alternative methods or other surgeries along with the one you want to achieve the look you desire.  For example, if you want a facelift the doctor may also recommend a facial laser therapy treatment prior to surgery or upper eyelid surgery.

Having more than one procedure usually requires a hospital stay, but some surgeons have an after care center in their clinic. Hospital costs can run 60% to 70% higher than outpatient surgery, so be wary when he wants to add additional procedures.  Where ever you decide to have the surgery performed make sure the facility is accredited by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC), the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) or the American Association for Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgical Facilities (AAAASF).

Why is an accreditation by one of these organizations important?  Look at the criterion of the American Association for Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgical Facilities (AAAASF). The accreditation by the AAAASF would guarantee that the director of the facility is board certified by the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) in a surgical specialty and has hospital privileges. Also, you will have your anesthesia given by a board-certified anesthesiologist or a certified registered nurse anesthesiologist. Accreditation by the AAAASF also means that the facility where you will have your surgery met strict safety and sanitation measures. If you decide to have outpatient surgery make sure that your surgeon’s facility is certified in the type of anesthesia that you will have.docdegreecartoon1

Cosmetic Surgery is not inexpensive, therefore assessing all aspects of the surgery including the fees is very important. Be aware of any hidden costs including pre and post op care, medications, lab work, ECT. Some surgeons also charge for the initial consultation while others do not, if they do make sure the fee will be refunded if you decide not to have the cosmetic surgery. Discuss payment plans, insurance coverage and credit companies.  There are credit card companies that work with cosmetic surgery centers such as CapitalOne Care Credit. Remember the qualifications, skill and knowledge of the surgeon out way the costs involved.

After the consultation and cosmetic surgery photos are take you are excited and feel as though you absolutely want the surgery, but go home and think about it.  Do more home work and compare your surgeon with others.  Set up consultations with other surgeons before you decide to have surgery and remember to ask a lot of questions. The more you know the better you will feel about getting the look that you desire.
